Living in Bradshaw

Bradshaw is on the northern edge of Bolton, between Harwood and Bromley Cross, where the town meets the southern edge of the West Pennine Moors. Bradshaw Brook runs through it on its way down from Jumbles Reservoir. It is part of the Borough of Bolton.

The Bradshaw family held the manor here from the 13th century until the late 1600s, and Bradshaw was a township of the old parish of Bolton-le-Moors. Bradshaw is known for its tower without a church and church without a tower. The Grade II listed tower is all that survives of the old chapel, while St Maxentius' Church, built nearby in 1872, has no tower of its own.

Today Bradshaw is mainly residential. The Crofters on Bradshaw Road is the local pub, and there are shops close by in Harwood and Bromley Cross.

Schools and getting around

St Maxentius CE Primary School is on New Heys Way, and Canon Slade School, a Church of England secondary school with a sixth form, is on Bradshaw Brow. The Harwood and Bromley Cross primary schools are also close by. The 480 bus runs between Bolton and Bury through Bradshaw, Walves and Ramsbottom, and the 507 links Bradshaw with Bolton Interchange. Bromley Cross station, with trains to Manchester Victoria and Blackburn, is a short walk or drive away.

Things to do

Footpaths follow Bradshaw Brook through the valley, and Jumbles Country Park and its reservoir walk are just to the north. Bradshaw Cricket Club plays at The Rigbys, off Bolton Road, and the moors and the Last Drop Village are within easy reach.
