Living in Breightmet

Breightmet is on the eastern side of Bolton, about two miles from the town centre, on the road towards Bury. Harwood and Bradshaw are to the north, Ainsworth and the edge of the Borough of Bury to the east, and Little Lever to the south. It has a Bolton (BL2) postcode, and Bury, Radcliffe and Bolton town centre are all a short drive away.

St James's Church, built in 1855 and listed Grade II, is one of its oldest landmarks, and Canon James Slade, the Vicar of Bolton who gave his name to Canon Slade School, is buried in its churchyard. Today Breightmet has a wide mix of terraces, semi-detached houses, bungalows and detached homes.

There are local shops and supermarkets across the area, and Bolton town centre is close by for everything else.

Schools and getting around

Bolton St Catherine's Academy is a Church of England all-through school in Breightmet, taking children from nursery to the end of secondary school, and there are several primary schools across the area. The 511 bus runs between Bury and Bolton through Breightmet, and other routes link it with Bolton town centre. Bury Road (the A58) gives a direct road into Bolton and out towards Bury.

Things to do

Leverhulme Park is Bolton's largest park, with an athletics track, a leisure centre and wide open space. Bolton parkrun is held there every Saturday at 9am. Seven Acres Country Park, along Bradshaw Brook on the Breightmet side of Bradshaw, offers riverside walks and woodland, and footpaths lead on towards Harwood and Jumbles.
