Living in Sharples
Sharples is on the northern edge of Bolton, around Belmont Road as it climbs out of town towards Belmont and the moors. Astley Bridge is to the south, Eagley and Bromley Cross to the east and Smithills to the west. It has a Bolton (BL1) postcode and is about two and a half miles from the town centre.
Sharples was one of the old townships of the parish of Bolton le Moors, with Sharples Hall as its manor house. The old hall has long gone, but a later Sharples Hall, built around 1870 and once the home of the mill owner Sir John Holden, stands on Eagley Bank and is listed Grade II.
Most homes here were built in the 20th century, with semi-detached and detached houses on quiet residential roads, and some older stone cottages and terraces on the lanes nearer the moors.
Schools and getting around
Sharples School on Hill Cot Road is the local secondary school, and nearby primary schools include Sharples Primary School and The Oaks Primary School on Sharples Hall Drive. Buses run along Belmont Road and Blackburn Road into Bolton town centre, and Bromley Cross and Hall i' th' Wood stations are close by for trains to Manchester and Blackburn.
Things to do
The West Pennine Moors are right on the doorstep, with paths up towards Winter Hill and Belmont. Moss Bank Park, the Smithills Estate and Jumbles Country Park are all a short trip away, and Bolton town centre is close by for shopping.
